Volunteer FAQs
What is Band?
Band is the app we use to keep in touch. We are able to create breakout groups for individual shows or big groups like our Truffle Pigs. It makes scheduling large groups and giving them information a lot easier than sending out chain emails. For a quick how-to guide for the app, watch this video

What is a Truffle Pig?
We call our volunteers Truffe Pigs because truffle pigs are a type of pig trained to go out and hunt for truffles - very valuable mushrooms. Likewise, when FTE began, looking for shows that showcased our mission made volunteers feel like pigs hunting for truffles

Why do I need to sign the Code of Conduct?
Because FTE is an organization that puts its volunteers first. Our goal is to provide you with a positive experience when working with us. And because we often delve into sensitive topics in our productions, it's important that we approach all of our theater work safely, cooperatively, and with kindness.

What are some of the things I can do as a volunteer?
Volunteers come in all shapes and sizes here at FTE. Most frequently we are in need of volunteers to help us run box office, tend the bar, or usher audience members to their seats during a show run. You don't have to be available for every night, but signing up for one of these opportunities on our Band or Facebook is a great help. If you're interested in theater production, we can also always use volunteer crew members to build/paint the set (set crew), change scenes during a performance (run crew), help actors with costume changes (dressers), or take on specialty jobs like Costumes, Sound/Lights, Stage Managing, Directing, etc. If you aren't sure where to start, ask our volunteer coordinator at FTEVolunteers@fredtheatre.org

How do I get into Leadership?
Most leadership positions require some tenure with FTE; however, we're always happy for anyone taking initiative to be a leader. If you're interested in directing a show or being a lead designer, you'll need to assist a current director/designer for a season first (email the Artistic Director for more information). If you want to join leadership teams that make decisions, you may want to start with our various committees. Committees generally don't require anything more than the drive to get tasks done and are great places to show your leadership qualities.

Is Acting in a show also Volunteering?
It very much is! FTE is a fully volunteer run organization. Many of our volunteers run the gamut from design to performance to administration. Any time you spend at the theater as a volunteer is greatly appreciated!

What can I do if I want to work on a specific show?
If you hear about a show we're producing in the upcoming season and wish to join the production team, please reach out to our Artistic Director to find out what opportunities are available at that time.
